BCRT was founded as an alliance in 2006 by Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin and the Helmholtz Association. Concentrated Knowledge comes together from one of the biggest university clinics of Europe and from the biggest science association in Germany. More than 250 clinicians, scientists, biomaterial researchers and engineers work at our two campuses: at the Virchow Clinic of Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin and at Campus Teltow of Helmholtz Center Geesthacht GmbH. A board of directors consisting of three members heads the center; it works closely together with the center's steering committee.
Our four research fields and three technology platforms are at the very heart of the BCRT. Those are further subdivided into research groups. The researchers of the individual research groups work independently, i.e. they sometimes even belong additionally to another institute within or outside Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin. This structure allows to keep responsibilities clearly defined without foregoing scientific independence.
