Tissue homeostasis and cachexia

The research field deals with the investigation of mechanisms of tissue metabolism, which control the muscle catabolism. We are researching the development of novel treatment concepts to prevent muscle spasms as a complication of acute and chronic diseases.

Our research focus is the pathophysiology of cachexia and muscle wasting (sarcopene) in chronic heart failure, stroke, COPD, CKD, cancer and elderly patients. To this end, we conduct clinical and experimental studies on metabolic regulation of cardiac insufficiency in functionability and morality.

Objectives

  • Cachexia an muscle wasting as an indeoendent rist factor in many diseases - mechanisms and new therapies
  • New approaches in heart failure by repurposing drugs
