Public Talk: Diseases of the Immune Systems
5 November 2014
Prof. Dr. Hans-Dieter Volk, Director, Berlin-Brandenburg Center for Regenerative Therapies (BCRT) and Director, Institute for Medical Immunology, Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin
Our body is constantly required to manage a multitude of tasks in order to protect it against intruding micro-organisms as well as destroy degenerated cells. It is a complex system with diverse components in tune with each other. If the system is out of balance the body is more vulnerable to diseases and might even be in danger of fighting against itself. Which treatments are there in order to get an errant immune system back into balance? Which therapies are chosen and where are their limits? Which are the latest foundings in immunology? The lecture will answer those questions and show latest trends in research done on the immune system.
